A number of private providers in the northern area are registered for medicare services - current participation should be ascertained directly with each service.
MENTAL HEALTH
Psychologists
The psychologists in private practice in the Launceston area have a website to assist with referrals.
http://www.northtaspsychologists.com Website provides information about each psychologist - their contact/practice details, areas of interest/expertise and the types of clients they see (individuals, children etc) and their current availability to receive new referrals. Usually Psychologists can accept self referrals as well as via Medicare, private health insurers, MAIB, Workers Compensation, Victims of Crime and other means.
Accredited Mental Health Social Workers
An accredited Mental Health Social Worker is a Social Worker who has been assessed by the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) as having specialist mental health expertise. Accredited Mental Health Social Workers in private practice are eligible to provide services through the Commonwealth funded Better Access to Mental Health Care and Chronic Disease Management (Team care Arrangements) programs. Social Workers are also providers in the Better Outcomes in Mental Health Initiative. The lodgement of a Mental Health Care Plan (2710) with Medicare activates the registration of the patient and enables them to claim a rebate from Medicare for Focussed Psychological Strategies services with any of the above Mental Health Social Workers, all of whom are located in Launceston.
