Enhancing general practice and the delivery of primary care

General Practice North was formed in 1992 as one of ten demonstration Divisions throughout Australia. Its structure and constitution were adopted by many of the other Divisions from July 1993 onwards.

Currently there are 121 Divisions throughout Australia. Divisions are funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing.

General Practice North serves the northern region of Tasmania and has a membership of approximately 140 general practitioners.

Since its inception, GP North has contributed to the development and enhancement of the role of the general practitioner in the community and improving health care delivery to Northern Tasmanians.
