General Practice North is a progressive organisation supporting a medical workforce of 140 and a population of 130,000. It is committed to working with the community and healthcare providers to achieve optimal health for our population. The Division has an active and committed GP population who recognise that the delivery of healthcare is a partnership between providers and patients. This partnership is reflected in the level of integration, consultation and widespread stakeholder engagement in program design, development, delivery and evaluation.
General Practice North runs a dynamic program of services and projects drawing funds from a number of core and alternate sources. This Division has a long and active history of alternate funds sourcing that has culminated in the establishment of a successful subsidiary service company for general and other health practice. In doing so, the Division has been able to significantly broaden its service portfolio and strengthen its local support role for general practice and other health providers.
Recent support for sustainable clinical practice has seen our engagement in a variety of innovative areas – including the sustainable building, development and ownership of some rural health facilities.
Membership commitment and engagement is our strength and the augmentation of the capacity of our clinical and health workforce to drive change in health service delivery remains our main goal.
Our core programs reflect the full gamut of national priorities for the profession and Divisions of General Practice, including: workforce support, allied health engagement, service integration, chronic disease management, robust governance and preventative health.
In Tasmania and in particular areas of the Northern Region, the GP workforce issues fluctuate between extreme and poor. General Practice North has maintained and will continue to pursue a strong focus on support for workforce recruitment and retention and will work collaboratively with key agencies to achieve advances and developments in this area.
General Practice North aims to continue its strong regional and statewide presence in regard to health program and service provision, it also aims to maintain a strong national leadership role through ongoing involvement in innovative service trial and development. General Practice North wishes to cement its role as a regional facilitator of integration and innovative solution development through engagement of community consultation.
We have been responsible for the design, development and implementation of a regional integrated service model for allied care for patients with type 2 diabetes. This service has drawn together a broad cross-section of allied health providers in the delivery of integrated service care pathways to referred patients. It is one of the few examples of its type in the country, and we believe, a blueprint for progressive service access and delivery into the future.
General Practice North is committed to maintaining and strengthening of statewide partnerships and collaboration with partner organisations, state health, our SBO and network partners.
General Practice North has achieved and successfully maintained full independent QMS accreditation of our service and its procedures and processes and aims to maintain its place as an innovative leader and driver of change within and through the Divisions network.
